Last week we went over for dinner at some friends and brought a bottle of wine. I was wishing I had made a little tote as a gift. I sewed one up today–and it doesn’t take long–and I am looking forward to giving this one away.
There is actually a bottle of wine in the bag already, but you can’t see it. I made it so it would fit a larger bottle of wine as well, but now that I look at it, I think I’d like to make the next one a little shorter so the bottle isn’t so hidden. Or, a little tissue paper in the bottom of the bag would solve that too and it would still be able to hold a larger bag.
To make this bag, I cut two exterior pieces–the lower piece 5″ x 15″ and the upper piece 11″ x 15″. I stitched the upper and lower pieces together, then basted on heavier interfacing and topstitched on each side of the seam.
The rest is basic tote construction. I will tweak this pattern and draft up a tutorial for this project later this month!
I also played around with using my Silhouette to cut out a heat transfer design. I didn’t finish as my learning curve is still steep. But I am learning.
I got this far. I had something else in mind though and I am going to work away at it in my free time and post out about that later. Stay tuned for more!
What do you think? Do you bring wine as a gift? Why not gift the bag as well?
Enjoy your summer!
Until next time,

How did you finish the bottom of the bag??? It looks like it’s round but I can’t tell how you finished it off. I need a bag to help carry my dogs water bottle on our morning walks. I have to put it in my shorts pocket and it’s a pain because it makes me heavier on one side LOL.
I think this bag will work great except I would like a round bottom so I can leave it on a table or cement with out any problems if it’s empty 🙂 I am a beginner sewer so I need patterns for everything LOL Thanks for the info on making it but I would like to know how to do the bottom you didn’t say.

So glad you asked! I actually had a later blog post with a tutorial for this wine tote. If you’d like to read that post and get the tutorial, click here.
The bottom is pretty basic using a boxed bottom construction method so it is square.
