Woo Hoo! I am excited to share with you the newest silicone products from Around the Bobbin. Oven mitts are awesome, but a kitchen would not be complete without trivets and pot holders. I want to tell you a bit about each of these products, share some great tester samples and some that I’ve sewn as well. And make sure you read to the bottom to join in the giveaway for a chance to win one of these kits.
The Hot Stuff Trivet and Pot Holder kit comes in 2 sizes. The Small size includes a 6-1/2″ square silicone piece that you frame up to make an 8″ trivet.
You can sew these two ways. In the picture above, the left pot holder has a handpocket and is made with a stitch and flip technique. The right trivet above does not have a handpocket and is finished with binding. One pattern with two options.
The Large size is essentially the same, just bigger.
The Large Size kit includes a 8″ square silicone piece that you frame up to make a 9-1/2″ trivet. Just like the small kit, you can make the version without the handpocket and finish it with binding (shown on left above) or create a handpocket and finish with the stitch and flip technique.
Want to make another one? Refills are available for each:
So, you might ask what’s with the name? I originally planned these as a trivet pattern, then a friend suggested adding hand pocket. So, they can be used as a trivet on the table or as a pot holder to take a dish out of the oven.
Let’s look at some examples from my wonderful testers!
I love Melissa’s choice of fabrics on this – such a rich blue tone. This is a small trivet, finished with binding.
Here’s Jenniffer’s small trivet & pot holder. It’s finished with a hand pocket and no-bind method. Pretty!
Daryl tested hers with a quilted front. Fun!
Mary Jo is all ready for the 4th of July with her large trivet and pot holder, finished with binding. Very festive!
Cara chose such beautiful colors for her large trivet and pot holder, finished with a handpocket and no-bind method. I love how this turned out.
Joyce made a pretty floral trivet. It is the large size, finished with binding.
I have a lot of samples I sewed for quilt market, the trade show for the quilting industry that I attended a few weeks ago. I wanted to share with you some of the fun things you can do with these. The nonsilicone side is a fun place to play with fabric. In the sample below, I stitched up a 6-1/2″ block from Tula Pink’s 100 Modern Quilt Blocks book.
Or have some fun with an applique design. This one is the gnome from my Peek-a-Gnome pattern.
Or go simple and frame up a 6-1/2″ square on the back.
Here are some other samples to give you ideas:
I hope that gives you some ideas and inspiration. Now I think it’s time for that giveaway!

These trivets and pot holders are awesome! The style really changes with the change of fabric used …all so pretty! My favorite dessert is one I rarely have, but cannot say no to when it’s within 10 feet is a soft, chewy brownie with chocolate frosting. My mouth waters just thinking of one!

How exciting, these trivets look amazing! I’m a “Sugar-aholic…” I love just about all desserts, but I think one of my most favorite treats would have to be just out of the oven brownies that are a teeny tiny bit chewy, but also melt in your mouth alongside a milk. Thank you for the chance 🙂

I would love to win this! Favorite dessert….mmmmm….so many, I am a retired baker. I do love pie…just sayin….
Patricia Melilli says
What kind of machine needle do we use for this??
Lisa Amundson says
I like to use a Schmetz Microtex needle, size 14 but a denim needle works fine too. More importantly, make sure your needle is fresh. It is surprisingly easy to sew through so long as you have fabric on both sides of it.

These would make great gifts. My favorite dessert is lemon meringue pie – my grandmother’s recipe.
