And 21 Totes continues….
I’m only on Tote #3 and I’m already messing with the shape….ha! I do LOVE to play with shape and I guess I just can’t help it 🙂 Actually I would mess with the shape even more, but I do really like this bag.
I wanted to make a less structured bag. I measured out basic rectangles in the size I wanted and after constructing the fronts and backs I trimmed the sides to create a curved edge. Then I added the darts, handles and interior pockets and the usual sewing it all together stuff.
The inside has two large subdivided pockets.
I used Pellon shapeflex (SF101) for the interfacing and experimented with using a double layer of it. It worked just great! It ironed on just as nicely as the first layer and even after tugging at the fabric to pull the outside out at the end it didn’t crease, which I always figure is the best test. It’s a good option whenever the bag needs some body but not stiffness.
Photobombed by our springer spaniel . . . again. Ready, aim, springer! Sometimes I don’t know how she gets in there so quickly.
The handles are stitched onto the outside front and back — really like that look. Next time they will be thinner and longer above the top of the bag.
If you are a beginner, you could easily put those handles into the seam and not have to do the topstitching.
That’s it . . . until next time!
