The birds are singing and the grass is greening up in Minnesota! And it’s time for a new tote!
The Soho Tote is a large slouchy bag with dart construction. This is a great bag for an adventurous beginner or an easy sew for an intermediate or advanced bag maker. I thought it would be fun to make a bag pattern for an easy tote that wasn’t boxy. So here it is!
The inside is roomy and full of pockets, including a zip pocket. The zip pocket can be made on the outside as well or omitted for a beginner or a zipper-hater 🙂
I’d like to share wonderful pictures from my testing group. They do not disappoint–they did such an amazing job on their bags.
The handles are sewed onto the exterior of the bag for a little stylish flair. I love the fabric combination Brinkley chose for her Soho Tote, not just because I’m crazy about coral but look at that fabric. Love it.
Stacey’s bag is amazing! The Elizabeth fabric from Tula Pink just fits this bag. Stacey perfectly lined up the Elizabeth selfies on the bag and sewed it together beautifully. Love it!!!
Jenniffer has another fun combination of fabrics–a lively geometric paired with a fun floral. What a great idea and it works beautifully!
You can sew the handles into the top seam of the bag, and Noor chose to do just that. I am so glad Noor chose denim so we could see how nicely the denim drapes on the bag. Noor added a little embellishment that adds such a nice touch.
Noor took a great shot of the inside of the tote, and you can see how roomy it is inside.
Jessi made her Soho out of vinyl with a fabric upper band and interior. This bag turned out very professional looking and I am so impressed!! You can see in the second picture how Jessi added a key fob into the seam. This is a great idea for such a deep bag.
Judy made her bag with this cute word-art print. It’s adorable and just so cute!
I really like the movement in this bag by Ramona. The coral-orange tones move from the handle into the bag and same with the green upper band. It all works really well together and she did a great job!
One of the many things I love about testing with a group is the chance to see how a new bag design looks on a wide variety of fabrics. Jessica choose a dainty, soft look for her bag, and I think it turned out so pretty.
Liz extended her handles and added a monogrammed pocket. How cute is that?? Great idea Liz!
And here’s another beautiful fabric combination from Peggy!
Another view of Peggy’s bag shows a peek into a bit of the interior. I like how the colors work together on this bag too. Really great sewing too!
Tricia’s bag makes me just want to go on vacation…..right now! Can’t you see this on the beach front! It is so much fun and a vacation waiting to happen! Tricia’s decorative stitching at the top of the bag really adds a nice finishing touch.
And just because you need to see more, here is another one I sewed up.
That’s it! The downloadable PDF pattern is now available in the Around the Bobbin store, and the paper version went off to the printer today so it will be available in a couple weeks.
You can get the Soho pattern here.
Thanks for stopping by!

This is my FAVORITE bag pattern! (yet) I love the stylish look with the top stitched handles. With the fold over in the center of the handles, the bag looks like what I would find in a boutique! The fully lined inside of the bag is outfitted with sectioned pockets on both sides and a zippered pocket on one side. This allows me to keep all my stuff organized. The bag stands up because of the pleated bottom. Made with the Soft & Stable variations, the bag is a sturdy, heavy duty, tote ready to pack up for going to work, going to friends’ houses, and everyday chasing kids around. Best part of the bag??? The availability to show off unique and stunning fabrics!
