My newest pattern is a wall hanging of a Christmas Tree made up of gnomes. I’ve had this idea for awhile and decided that the world needs something that makes us smile. This makes me smile, and hopefully you too.
You can sew it up as a 6-row version or a 5-row version if you want it a little shorter. It’s a combination of piecing and applique, and has a lot of forgiveness built in.
The quilt is constructed row-by-row. The bodies are made by strip-piecing body strips with background strips to create even spacing for the geometric tree shape. After the rows are completed, the rows are centered and sewn together, and the sides are trimmed.
The cover quilt is made using the Naughty or Nice collection from BasicGrey, coming out this month (June 2020).
Daryl tested the pattern and sewed up the 5-row version below. So adorable! You can see her quilting on the closeups of the gnomes. I’m sure there are a lot of ways to quilt this, but I really like that it works well with some basic straight line stitching (my sample) or meandering/stippling on her sample.
Of course, a tree would not be complete without an angel at the top.
