Two years ago, I designed a tote using the Lil’ Twister tool, aptly named the Twister Tote pattern. It is a twist on color-blocking and it was a fun bag to create. I sewed so many of them that year for quilt market and for fabric companies thought that I was done, put a fork in me for sure. But, I still really like this pattern and it has been one of my top sellers at quilt shops.
Fast forward two years to this last week. I had the chance to sew another one for a collaboration I’m doing using Northcott’s Toscana fabric in periwinkle and gray, and now I could sit down and sew another one, sure! The Lil’ Twister tool is just plain fun. And the Toscana solids have such a beautiful watercolor look to them–solid, but with a little depth to them. Beautiful fabrics.
I’m not counting this one toward my 21 totes goal since it isn’t a new tote, but I hope you like it. If you’ve sewn a Twister Tote, feel free to share about it – I’d love to see it!
The downloadable PDF of this pattern is now available from my retail store, as well as the paper pattern. I will be adding the Lil’ Twister tool to my store later this summer, but in the meantime, this great little ruler is easy to find. Check your local quilt store – almost all of them carry it.
You may be spending hours wondering how this Twister Tote compares to the new Simply Charming Twister Tote. The original Twister Tote is taller and not as wide. It is a play on color-blocking using 3 gradations of color contrasting with a main color (periwinkle above). The new tote is charm-pack friendly and has a great scrappy look to the pinwheels.
So, do you twist?
This makes a great summer tote, and if you haven’t tried the Lil’ Twister too, it might be time!
Until next time . . .
