Two more patterns are now available in downloadable PDFs. So if you are looking for instant gratification (well, sort of, except for that whole sewing thing, ha ha), this is your moment . . . but seriously you could start sewing one of these right now! The Book Club Bag and the Sassy Tote Bag patterns are now available in my retail store and on Craftsy.
Let me tell you a bit about each of them.
The Book Club Bag pattern is very sturdy. It will hold heavy books – no problem or an e-reader or tablet! The large interior pocket holds an e-reader or tablet and keeps it separate and protected from the rest of your stuff. The pocket closes with Velcro to keep the e-reader/tablet from slipping out. There is also an interior zipped pocket and a subdivided pocket for little stuff. You can mix and match these pockets to meet your needs. The e-reader pocket comes in a standard size that fits most e-readers. Instructions for customizing the pocket are also included if you are interested in making the pocket fit your e-reader exactly.
Here’s a peek into the inside. As usual, I did not skimp on the pockets – the inside is very functional!
Part of the fun of this pattern is playing with strips. You cut the strips out and sew together the stripped panel. With a little sewing trickery you create a bag with a front and back that look different. This one is a fun sew and a great bag to learn some skills like sewing an in-set zipper and sewing strips.
The Book Club Bag is the perfect man bag for the guys. It makes a great gift. The bag above is made in Northcott’s Man About Town collection in fabrics that don’t scream girly purse. It works well for vacations or just being the man about town (insert groan here) when your guy wants to bring along a book or a tablet. Toss his keys and/or wallet into the interior zipped pocket and add in a few other personal items and he’s ready to go.
The other pattern I converted to PDF is the Sassy Tote Bag. The Sassy Tote Bag is bag that holds a lot. Ladies, let me tell you, it is easy to find everything in this bag. You will not lose anything. With the wide-open top, you can see everything in there at first glance.
I designed the Sassy Tote Bag specifically for sewers who didn’t want to sew a zipper. The only hardware needed for this project are two magnetic snap sets. Sew the fun handle loops and enjoy all the little finishing touches on this bag.
The Sassy Tote Bag has become popular with fans of Japanese fabrics. I can’t take credit for doing this intentionally, but I can see it now when I see it sewn up in Japanese style prints like Northcott’s Geisha collection. Something about the curves on this bag really sets off the prints well.
Let’s take a peek at the snap flap. The two flaps overlap and snap together in two places. Under the flaps are some great subdivided pockets to hold all your stuff. And, with the wide top on this bag, you won’t lose anything in it!
Of course, both the Book Club Bag and the Sassy Tote Bag are still available in paper too if you’d prefer. For those of you who are patient 🙂
