Essential Tote Pattern Corrections

Hi folks, huge apologies, but there are a bunch of errors for this pattern in the version with the 2016 copyright.    I am glad you are here so you can get the correct instructions.  I am so sorry you got the pattern with errors–I cringe at your likely frustration from this.

You can download these corrections as an insert for your pattern by clicking here: Essential Tote.Corrections.Download

1. Page 9

Cutting Fabric

  • Cut two pieces 3-3/4″ H x 16″ W for interior inset zipper panel pieces

  • For a 1″ wide zipper, cut one  piece 2″ H x 4-1/2″ W for the zipper tab OR

  • For a 1-1/2″ wide zipper, cut one piece 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ W for the zipper tab

Cutting Interfacing

  • Cut two pieces 3-1/4″ H x 15″ W to stabilize interior inset zipper panel pieces.

2. If you have the Northcott Stitch in Time cover on your pattern,  as shown below, please be aware that the  sewing machine fabric runs with the selvage and you will need 5/8 yard for the upper exterior.  The 9″ height for the upper exterior actually stops halfway through the  little  quilt blocks (the scale changed).  Note also on Page 6 , you are missing text that goes with the picture on the bottom right side of page 6.

Essential Tote.Cover.StitchinTimeBookletCover

  • Fold lower edge of interior panels up over pocket and press along the line you drew.  Stitch 3/8” from fold.

  1. Joyce Bovey says:

I’m making my bag exactly as shown with the row of sewing machines on the upper exterior. The pattern booklet calls for 1/3 yard of 42/44 inch wide fabric. If the bag is a little more than 19inches wide, how do you cut the upper exterior out of 12 in wide fabric?
